Europe's Largest Sand Dune!

LOCATION:

Arcachon, France

Today we took a little trip to the coastal town of Arcachon, which is where the Dune de Pilat is. Hearing about a giant sand dune in France, I wasn't sure what to expect, but we rented bikes and off we went.

The ride was great, ten miles along the coast.

Even after reading about the massiveness of the dune - it grows eastward at 4.5m per year and has swallowed up trees and even a hotel - there was no way to mentally prepare for this massive dune. All of a sudden though, it was there, in front of us.

At the bottom looking up.
Making the climb, about halfway there..

Made it!
Lauren was finally fed up with Julie's French accent so tried to push her off the dune!

Arcachon and the dune so far have been highlights of the trip, it was great to ride bikes along the ocean, see the massive mountain of sand, and just be in awe for a few moments.

I had never seen anything quite like it.
