V.I.P. at Versailles

LOCATION:

Versailles, France

We took a day trip to Versailles, to visit the opulent palace and gardens, it was so beautiful! Because we had such an early morning though, the first stop before the tour was McCafe. Normally I try to avoid fast food chains in other countries, but I am telling you, McDonalds is decent in France! They even have a McBaguette!

Cafe au Lait, s'il vous plait!

When we went in for our tour, we were surprised to find it was only the three of us and two other ladies, so pretty much a private tour. We got inside access to bedchamber of King Louis XVI, the palace opera house, and several other top secret rooms that not all visitors get to see. Two thumbs up to the private guided tour!

Gold leaf was everywhere!

I loved all of the chandeliers, and the pretty patterns they made.

After the private tour, we joined the thousands of other visitors and continued exploring the palace and gardens. We saw the infamous Hall of Mirrors, Marie Antoinette's bedchamber, and (after a walk through the gardens), Marie Antoinette's "play" house, which was much more reserved than the rest if the house. Out of all the queens to live at Versailles before the French Revolution, she was the most famous and the only one to leave her mark - decoratively at least - on the palace.

Hall of mirrors, so beautiful.
Marie Antoinette's taste is a bit more floral than mine...
We decided she must have been short, because all doors at the "play" house were tiny!
